BREE
The busstation at Bree school campus is a spatial braided steel structure with a covering tensioned membrane. The structure seems to have an organic logic, developed to its most fitting shape. Commissioned by Veldeman Structure Solutions, Tentech designed the structure from concept to execution.
The new bus station is part of a larger development involving several schools, educational institutions and facilities by the municipality, including a fitting infrastructure. The roof is the central landmark in the area and offers the students of the campus shade and protect them from rain.
A precondition for the design was to create a canopy with a column free area below. Tentech used this design note for the steel structure’s shape in which the membranes tension forces are literally brought outward. The ideal line to distribute these forces is rationalized into a manufacturable structure that consists of only single curved tubes.
During the engineering stage, Tentech focused on digital craftsmanship. The 3D-model was drawn into high detail and could be used as a direct input to CNC bend, cut and sign the tube sections. Simplifying construction and assembly.
