SUNTEX

In collaboration with studio Pauline van Dongen Design, Tentech is involved in an R&D project called SUNTEX. The aim is to develop a structural fabric out of smart textile. Ingredients for the smart textile are solar technology and weaving. The solar textile will be used in textile architecture.
The role of Tentech in this project is to enable SUNTEX to become a structural membrane. This means listing the boundaries of the technical characteristics of the fabric in such a way that it can be used worldwide as a building material. Aspects as strength, stiffness, elongation under load, durability, fire retardancy, UV-stability, integration of solar technology need to be addressed as well as the connections and cutting pattern layout.

Our work doesn’t end with the realization of the technical design. We focus on all aspects of the design and production process that have an impact on textile architecture. Therefore, we are involved with all phases of the design process: from project definition, composition and preliminary design to the technical design, quotation, workshop drawings and maintenance. Supervising production, translating design into tailor made cutting patterns and connections, and assistance in the search and selection of the right market participants, are also part of our services. In our view, this is part of ‘modern craftsmanship’.
