WAVE PAVILION
The roof of the pavilion for the ‘Wave’ exhibition of BNP Paribas is a lightweight structure where the principle of Tensairity is applied. Air pressure inside the donuts is used for stabilization of an internal compression-ring, between which the roof membrane is tensioned. Hence, the roof is experienced as a refined and light counterpart to the solid and industrial base.
By participating in the design process, an optimized shape was created in an early stage. Therefore it was possible to simplify the fabrication process. The internal undulating compression ring is created out of several pieces that all have the same radius.
After the exhibition in ‘Parc de la Vilette’ – Paris, the pavilion was disassembled and reconstructed again in India, Hong Kong and Istanbul.
