ZEP

In Middelburg, the ZEP Leisure Park is realized. The park includes facilities for dancing, sports, food, shopping and learning. An important aspect of the designed cluster of buildings by NIO Architects, are the amorphous formed membrane canopies, which connect the various buildings and provide shelter from the rain.

Although the canopies differ from each other, they use the same principles for the structural design. Laminated wooden beams are reaching out of the building volumes and support the 3D curved edge beams. At the façade side, a single curved gutter beam is installed. The PVC coated polyester membrane is placed on top of the wooden beams and is tensioned between the edge and the gutter beams. The membrane follows the curves from the supports fluently, which generates the amorphous canopy shape.

Despite the complex shape of the canopy, many connection details were standardized. For example, all the connections of the membrane to the single curved gutter beam and to the double curved edge beams are identical. Due to this and by making use of intelligent techniques, it was possible to achieve a complex-shaped eye catcher in a cost neutral manner.

Textile architecture projects

The covering of a courtyard, canopies or stadiums… Tentech is part of the building team when textile and complex geometric shapes are used in new or existing architecture. Often we are responsible for a specific part of the design. In dialogue with the architect, contractor and client, we achieve an optimal contribution.

The design…

Our designs are characterized by sculptural quality and clean detailing, along with requirements of the location and usage of the structure. Combined they result into strong architectural concepts, in which aesthetics goes hand in hand with safe usage.

…and more

Our work doesn’t end with the realization of the technical design. We focus on all aspects of the design and production process that have an impact on textile architecture. Therefore, we are involved with all phases of the design process: from project definition, composition and preliminary design to the technical design, quotation, workshop drawings and maintenance. Supervising production, translating design into tailor made cutting patterns and connections, and assistance in the search and selection of the right market participants, are also part of our services. In our view, this is part of ‘modern craftsmanship’.
